coco rosie

when: may 8
where: rock n roll hotel
why: cause everyone i know is creaming their panties over cocorosie. that, and the potential for a war against the hipsters ( apparently bianca of cocorosie is closely associated with ny hipster dance party "kill whitey" which not everyone considers to be "ironic").

saturday - my favorite of all days ending in "day"

saturdays are made for brunching, and shopping, and mimosa drinking. and when the boutiques offer discounts of up to 70%, it leaves more money for the brunching and mimosa drinking parts of you morning (which, after shopping, are the second and third best parts).

when: friday april 26 & saturday 27
where: georgetown, wisconsin avenue, nw, between p and r streets
time: 11 a.m to 7 p.m.

visit the website for a list of all the stores offering sales and tastings. not to mention the details on the 4th annual book sale on bookhill (bookhill people!).

update! i know a girl who has big feet

$12 doesnt go far these days. hell, youre lucky to buy a drink for that.

but on tuesday nights at the red and black, you can get a haircut, a shot, and witty banter from a couple of hot faux gays.

youre probably thinking "they only cut boys hair" and you are wrong. not only did the give the lizard (pictured above) one of the best cuts ive seen her sport, but, they spent about 45 minutes cutting it, blowing it out, and flat ironing it. youre thinking "i bet she got special treatment because she was celebrating her big 3-0," and again, you are wrong. they spent 25 minutes cutting a BOYS hair, even taking the time to texturize his curls (which as a curly headed girl, i cant stress the importance of enough).

if youre like me, and have lots and lots of hair, you better make an appointment with john (pictured above) at salon loule in dupont which, at $40, is still a steal! calling you sweetheart in a totally non-condescending way is free.

man. you HAVE to stop second guessing me!

swami van nasty knows

you're thinking to yourself:

self - i want to go to the paul michel show at dc9, but, if i go home and live dangerously (i.e., take a nap, make dinner, get comfy cozy in my footsie jammies, watch an episode of the gilmore girls) i will never make it out of my house again. what do i do with the time after work but before the show?!?

fear not, brave soul. i have a solution, and that solution is chocolate.

divine chocolate, a company specializing in organic, fair trade fine chocolate, is hosting a chocolate tasting tuesday, feb. 6th at at biagio fine chocolate (1904 18th street) which, according to my source, is the most divine chocolate store ever (much like this is the longest sentence ever written).

when: tuesday, february 6

time: 6-8pm

where: biagio fine chocolate

1904 18th street, nw

divine chocolate: http://www.divinechocolate.com/low.html

biagio fine chocolate: http://www.biagiochocolate.com/find.htm

p.s. much like you can be your own pet, you can also be your own valentine. so treat yourself!

updated! sex workers art show

why is sex the one thing we are supposed to give away for free?

"The Sex Workers' Art Show, a cabaret-style evening of performance art created by people who work in the sex industry, to dispel the myth that they are anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses! Featuring performances by international burlesque sensation Miss Dirty Martini, award-winning author Stephen Elliott, feminist porn star and writer Amber Dawn, and many more!"

proceeds to benefit d.c. based organization h.i.p.s. (helping individual prostitutes survive) which helps female, male and transgendered persons engaged in sex work to lead healthy lives.

when: february 14
time: 8pm
where: rock and roll hotel
why: what says "happy valentines" better than sex for money?!?

ICE SKATING A GO! 01.27.07

AT LONG LAST! EVITATIONS FOR THE MOST HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EVENT OF THE YEAR (thus far) HAVE BEEN SENT!

That's right!!!
Ice Skating at the NGA.

Who needs real snow when you have artificially maintained concrete with a 3" sheet of chemically altered h20 on the surface???

not me!

After the skate, join us at the Bohemian Caverns at 8 or 10 (don't worry, we'll be there....) for jazz pianist Frank Ansallam and cocktails.

the Mary Hellyeah After Party/ Benjy Ferree at the Cat: 01.19.07

Those of you lucky enough to know MH (and I assume that is everyone reading this), should be in attendance at St. Ex on Friday, January 19, for a B.I.G. bday cele. Now, I understand that there are work and life schedules to accommodate and so, for you, dear friends, we've decided to keep the party going...

where? Why, at the Black Cat, of course! To hear the sweet vocal stylings of one Mr. Benjy Ferree. Playing with Meredith Bragg and the Terminals and Greenland.

Only $10 cheap!

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Running until January 28th.
In my opinion, this Edward Albee play, made infamous by Richard Burton and Liz Taylor's gripping performances on the silver screen, is a MUST SEE.

All of the weekend shows are sold out (it pays to be "friend of the Kennedy Center", kids!) but there are still reasonably priced seats should you want to catch a 7:30 pm show in the next two weeks.

Ice Skating at NGA... no longer hush hush!

'tis true! The fabulous Ms. Hale and I (along with some of our nearest and dearest co-pilots) will be releasing the details of our ice skating for all in the very near future..

more to come!
