youre probably thinking "they only cut boys hair" and you are wrong. not only did the give the lizard (pictured above) one of the best cuts ive seen her sport, but, they spent about 45 minutes cutting it, blowing it out, and flat ironing it. youre thinking "i bet she got special treatment because she was celebrating her big 3-0," and again, you are wrong. they spent 25 minutes cutting a BOYS hair, even taking the time to texturize his curls (which as a curly headed girl, i cant stress the importance of enough).

if youre like me, and have lots and lots of hair, you better make an appointment with john (pictured above) at salon loule in dupont which, at $40, is still a steal! calling you sweetheart in a totally non-condescending way is free.

stanley kubrick retrospective at AFI Silver Theatre until 03.01.07

dudes, I SO meant to post this at the beginning of the month....

AFI SILVER THEATRE is currently showcasing some of Stanley Kubrick's finest films from now until Thursday, March 1st. Rather than create some witty narrative, I'm reposting the review from Gary Arnold of the Washington Times, who describes this retrospective to perfection:

"No commercial filmmaker of the last 40 years has laid a stronger claim to "high art" than Stanley Kubrick. Think of the visionary psychological, psychedelic and spiritual experiment of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY; the seductively evil iconography of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and THE SHINING; the meticulous period detail and study in candlelight of BARRY LYNDON. His earliest efforts were rooted in conventional genre cinema, but their originality and stylistic departures remain unique: THE KILLING,a ripping caper flick, paced by the clock and fractured in time; PATHS OF GLORY, an authoritative war narrative with anti-war eloquence; Kubrick's tack on the virtually unfilmable LOLITA, making it a demented screwball comedy (as long as Shelley Winters was in the picture); and DR. STRANGELOVE, the director twisting a pulp thriller into a post-modern prank of absurdism and pitch-black comedy. Grinderman - Debut Album Out 5th March 2007

On 5th April 2006, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos entered RAK studios, London, for a week with producer Nick Launay and recorded thirteen songs. It was mixed in September at Metropolis Studios. Calling themselves Grinderman, the album is set for a March 2007 release.

This is probably the worst phone of all time. I bought it for it's sleek design, qwerty keypad, microsoft operating system, speakerphone, camera, predictive texting functionality... the list goes on and on. After 5 days of being on my home phone with customer no service and STILL completely unable to download ringtones, upload photos, see when I have a message (yup, no fucking lighted display), or constant web browser failure, I'm done.

Dine Out, Fight AIDS

We're all in save money mode, I know. But, couldn't you use a good excuse to go out to eat? Dining Out for Life is what you're looking for.

Here's the deal, on Thurs, March 8th, restaurants all over DC will donate a portion of their earnings to an awesome DC-based non-profit called Food & Friends. Food & Friends supports people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses. Along with nutrition counseling, Food & Friends prepares, packages and delivers meals and groceries to more than 1,200 people in the DC area.

Yours truly Leatha Weapon is one of the "Ambassadors" for the evening to help recruit people to dine at one of the fabulous participating locations. Here's where you come in, you need to come to the restaurant I'm at for the evening! Stay tuned, in coming days I'll tell you exactly what restaurant to sign up for that evening.

Baby's Very First Rave 02.24.07

Yikes! It's next weekend! I've been living, sleeping & eating electronica-event-production for the past few weeks. We have: 24 red lights, 5 bartenders, 2 "live acts" (electronica artists that compose the music simultaneously with performance), 1 DJ, 2 video/projection artists, 1 DJ stage (begged, borrowed & stolen from our children's theater), 3 projection screens. What else do we need? YOU, to warm up the dance floor, appreciate the music where our normal audience won't be able to, and have a general good time at the Smithsonian. (And watch me run around & play event coordinator.)

MUTEK and the government of Quebec are bringing down 2 "live acts" and 1 DJ from their yearly underground electronica festival. (If you don't know, find out through the website! It's epic!) With the underground movement in Montreal having gained speed around the mid to late 90's, these guys definitely know their stuff.

This is my kind of singin: Tripped out songwriting where the words don't make sense on paper, but set themselves up in your subconcious for days... Could easily be sung by a cowboy in full dress and no one would bat an eye... But the actual singer is a sunken-cheeked classic romantic figure who sweats so much you're sure he has the cholera... The sum is definitely greater than the parts.
