photography of Claude Gassian at Govinda

JHOCK and I had the pleasure of attending this event on it's opening night. Featuring rare photographs of your favorite rock icons, taken by French photographer, Claude Gassian.

"Govinda Gallery is pleased to present Anonymous, an exhibition of photographs by Claude Gassian. In the early 1970s, Gassian traded his guitar for a 35mm camera and began photographing his favorite musical artists. Over three decades later, he has developed one of the most significant visual archives documenting the icons of contemporary music.

More than simply portraits of well-known musicians and performers, Gassian’s photographs are part of his greater search for that beautiful moment beyond the immediately recognizable. Presented with the obvious celebrity of his subjects, Gassian persists until he catches that individual mood or private thought behind the very public personality. In the process, Gassian captures a feeling that eclipses the subject itself.

Many of Gassian’s images have been used as album covers, and have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers throughout the world. Currently, living and working in Paris, his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Europe. Featuring approximately fifty black and white and color photographs, Anonymous is his first exhibition in the United States."

Featuring photos of various artists including: Bjork, Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Miles Davis, Eurythmics, Moby, Nick Cave, Ray Charles, Led Zepplin, The Who, AC/DC, Tina Turner, Prince and more.

the BIG art show

the BIG ART SHOW

BIG ART SHOW gives local, unknown, and independent artists an opportunity to perform and display their work to their peers and to the public. Run by a collective of artists and volunteers based out of the Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Brooklyn area, BIG ART SHOW is driven by a passion to create an environment devoid of the pressures and insincerities of the public media.

BIG ART SHOW creates community both locally and nationally by having traveling art events which invite visual artists from any location to display their work, attend the shows, and network with other artists. Similarly, BIG ART SHOW provides an opportunity in which lesser-known musicians can play in front of larger and more varied audiences.
